Thank You, Novato

The first thing I want to say is simply thank you.

Pini Hardware has always been a family-run business, and we wouldn’t be here without the incredible support of our community. Not just Novato, but all of Marin County. Every time someone chooses to shop local, asks us for advice, or trusts us with a project around their home, you’re helping keep a tradition alive.

We’re now just a couple of years away from celebrating our 110th anniversary. Reaching a milestone like that takes a little luck, but more than anything, it takes a community that believes in supporting local businesses. That’s what has kept us going all these years, and it’s why we do our best to give back whenever we can.

So before anything else, thank you for allowing our family to continue serving yours.

Like so many businesses, the last few years have brought a lot of change. COVID changed everything for us. We had to learn new ways of serving our customers, including offering online ordering, curbside pickup, and local delivery—services we had never offered before but have become an important part of what we do today.

One of the biggest changes happened behind the scenes with our staff.

For many years, we were fortunate to have a wonderful group of retirees who worked with us a few days each week. They had spent their careers elsewhere but enjoyed staying active, helping customers, and sharing the incredible knowledge they had built over a lifetime. When COVID arrived, many understandably chose to stay home, and most have since remained happily retired.

We suddenly realized how much experience we had lost in a very short period of time. Today, we still have team members who have been with us for decades—some for more than 50 years—but we’ve also welcomed many newer employees who are just beginning their journey with us. That means we’ve invested even more in training and mentoring so they can provide the same friendly, knowledgeable service our customers have always expected.

If you’re one of those former retirees who enjoyed working at Pini, or if you’re recently retired and looking for a few rewarding hours each week, we’d truly love to have you join us. We’re always accepting applications, and we’re looking for people who enjoy working with others and want to be part of our community.

Knowledge of hardware is certainly a plus, but what matters most to us is being personable and caring about our customers. We can teach someone how to cut keys, mix paint, or help fix a leaky faucet. What can’t be taught quite as easily is enjoying helping people. That’s what makes someone a great fit at Pini Hardware.

Another exciting chapter for us has been opening our second location in San Marin. Expanding within Novato had been something my brothers and I talked about for years. We always knew that if the right opportunity came along, we’d seriously consider it. When the opportunity presented itself, we felt it would be a great way to better serve another part of our community.

Today, we’re seeing exactly what we had hoped. More neighbors have discovered the San Marin store, and it’s become a convenient option for customers who live on that side of town while allowing us to continue serving everyone at our original location.

Whether you visit one of our stores, shop online for pickup, or have an item delivered locally, our goal remains the same as it has always been: to make your projects a little easier and provide the kind of personal service that only a locally owned hardware store can offer.
