A Chair Side Chat with Dr. David Kamen

A frequent question I’ve been asked is why in the world would you become a dentist? No one likes going to see you. That’s fair. Here’s my story.

I chose dentistry because of my own experiences needing cosmetic dentistry. My uncle Pete, who was my dentist, inspired my decision. I can safely say that receiving quality cosmetic care positively affected me so much as a patient, I was driven to provide that experience for others.

I am a native Detroit resident having grown up in Oak Park. My wife Susie and I have been married almost 40 years. We have three children, two more in-law children and three grandsons. I enjoy family time, games, comedy, playing ice hockey, and personal development.

I began practicing in 1984 after graduation from the University of Detroit and quickly established my mission of treating people in the manner I would want myself, or my family to be treated, with safe, comfortable, and pain free dental experiences.

I’ve been on staff at Clarkston Family Dental since 2010, providing general, cosmetic, and reconstructive dentistry. Knowing many people dislike going to the dentist, I use a comforting chairside manner to help reduce the stress from going to the dentist and my playful nature, wit, with skillful results, to encourage patients to return for my care.

If I could give you one tip to make your dental visits easier, I would say to learn to clean your mouth really, good at home at least two-three times a week.  Also, just because you have no pain, doesn’t mean tooth damage hasn’t already occurred.

My David Kamen DDS Facebook professional page provides informational and amusing topics to reduce anxiety and increase awareness of your dental and oral health. I love being a dentist and continue to enjoy helping people to a healthy mouth and a beautiful smile.
