General Vehicle Maintenance Tips From Christian Brothers Automotive
Owner’s Manual: Your owner’s manual is the best source of truth for maintenance intervals. As a general rule of thumb:
- Oil & Filter Change: Non-synthetic or synthetic blend oil should be changed every 3,000 miles. Most modern cars use synthetic oil, which lasts 5,000–10,000 miles depending on vehicle and driving habits.
- Cabin Air Filters: Replace every 15,000–30,000 miles. If you drive or park in dusty environments, change closer to 15,000 miles.
- Tire Rotation: Rotate tires every 6,000–8,000 miles to even out wear and extend lifespan.
- Battery: Most last 4–5 years (50,000–60,000 miles). If unsure when yours was last replaced, have it tested. Some vehicles have more than one battery.
- Brake Fluid: Replace every 20,000–45,000 miles, or every two years.
- Coolant Flush: Replace every 60,000 miles or every four years to prevent overheating and damage.
- Fuel Cleaning: Service your fuel system and injectors every 10,000–15,000 miles to prevent carbon buildup and loss of fuel efficiency.
