A Guide to Modern Wellness Treatments

Wellness has become increasingly important for both men and women. More men than ever are exploring cosmetic treatments that can support their health and enhance their appearance. These options range from completely noninvasive treatments all the way to surgical procedures. Here is an overview of the many choices that patients can consider.

Let us start with treatments that are entirely noninvasive. One well known option is Emsculpt Neo. This treatment uses electrical stimulation along with radio frequency to reduce fat and build muscle at the same time. It can be used on the abdomen, flanks, and arms. The results look like what thousands of crunches would create even though each session lasts only about 30 minutes. Emsculpt Neo is usually done as a series of six treatments with one session each week. It has essentially no downtime.

Another noninvasive treatment is a fat reduction method like CoolSculpting and other techniques that remove fat without surgery. This procedure is done in the office and can reduce fat by about 20 percent. It has minimal side effects and no downtime. It is important to make sure the patient is a good candidate since this method does not address loose skin and requires the right amount of fat for the device to work properly.

We can then move on to minimally invasive treatments that help refresh a person’s appearance. These include photo facials, laser facials, Botox and other neuromodulators as well as several types of fillers. Most of these treatments involve little to no downtime although some light bruising at the injection sites may appear for a day or two. These procedures usually need to be repeated every three to six months or sometimes longer depending on the type of filler used. Fillers and Botox can create a more youthful look, and many men choose them to maintain a fresh and confident appearance especially while staying competitive in the workforce.

There are also surgical procedures that can improve signs of facial aging and enhance body contour. Liposuction is one of the most common procedures among men especially around the waist. It is performed under anesthesia, and most patients can return to work within a day or two. A significant amount of fat can be removed and men in their thirties and forties often have enough natural skin elasticity for the skin to tighten and create a noticeably improved contour.

Surgical treatments can also address signs of facial aging. One long standing option for men has been blepharoplasty also known as an eyelid lift. This procedure removes extra skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids to create a younger and more alert appearance. With the rise of video meetings through platforms like Zoom and Teams many men have become more aware of how their neck appears on screen. I often refer to this as the Zoom neck because looking downward at a camera exaggerates the appearance of the neck over time. This concern can be treated with a facelift like procedures done for women or with a direct neck excision combined with Z-plasty and muscle tightening. The scar usually hides very well especially in men who have beard stubble, and it can still be well concealed even for those without a beard. Recovery time is generally minimal.

These are only some of the many ways men can support wellness and healthy aging. I am happy to discuss any of these options in greater detail with anyone who would like to schedule a visit to the office for a more complete and personalized understanding.
