From Pasture to Policy: The Rooted Legacy of Wayne Hughes

In the heart of the Tri-Cities, where the rolling hills of East Tennessee meet the industrious spirit of its people, you’ll find Wayne Hughes. To some, he is the trusted advisor behind a desk in Gray, helping families navigate the complexities of life and auto insurance. To others, he is the steward of Rocky Field Farm, a man who knows the weight of the soil and the value of a heritage that dates back to the 18th century.

Whether he’s analyzing a policy or checking on his Angus herd, Wayne’s life is defined by a singular theme: stewardship.

A Transition Guided by Purpose

Wayne’s journey to becoming a pillar of the local insurance industry wasn’t a straight line. For years, he served as the Parts and Distribution Manager for the Philips Electronics North America Division. When the industry was outsourced in 2005, Wayne found himself at a crossroads. Rather than seeing an ending, he saw an opportunity to find his true calling.

As a Farm Bureau customer since the age of 16, Wayne knew the company’s integrity firsthand. In 2006, he traded the corporate distribution world for a career built on conversation and community. He served Greene County faithfully until 2019 and has been a staple for Washington County residents since January 2020.

Faith, Family, and 285 Acres of History

Wayne isn’t just an agent who talks about rural values; he lives them. He and his wife, Pamela, operate Rocky Field Farm in Afton, a property founded in 1796. This isn’t just a farm; it’s a “Tennessee Pioneer Century Farm” that has been in the Hughes family for nine generations.

The farm has grown from its original 50 acres to a sprawling 285-acre operation dedicated to all-natural Angus beef. Wayne applies the same meticulous care to his cattle as he does to his insurance clients, utilizing low-stress handling techniques prescribed by world-renowned expert Temple Grandin.

The Rocky Field Farm Mission:

  • Quality First: Pasture-raised and grain-finished Angus beef.

  • Pure Integrity: Zero added hormones, steroids, or antibiotics.

  • Environmental Care: No chemical herbicides or pesticides on the pastures.

  • Transparency: USDA-inspected beef with no preservatives, dyes, or fillers.

A Record of Excellence

Wayne’s dedication has not gone unnoticed. Since being named Rookie of the Year in 2007, he has consistently earned his seat at the Round Table and received the All-Star award every year of his eligibility. These accolades aren’t just trophies on a shelf; they are a testament to his relentless drive to produce results for the people he represents.

Serving the Tri-Cities Community

When he isn’t at the office or on the tractor, Wayne is a fervent supporter of local youth, sponsoring activities that keep the community’s next generation thriving. And if you’re looking for a bit of local trivia: Wayne is a former 4-H biscuit-baking champion from his elementary school days. He jokes that if you stop by for a consultation, he might just be persuaded to whip up a batch.

Whether you need to secure your business’s future or fill your freezer with the highest quality local beef, Wayne Hughes is a man of his word, rooted in the land and committed to his neighbors.
