Local Artists Support Local Community

Each year, Carrie Simpson-Petty and Jim Petty, from Stone House of Tubac, get to meet and work with a variety of interesting and wonderful clients on some very cool projects. One part of their gallery business is creating cutting edge, unique, durable and beautiful finishes for floors, patios, countertops, backsplashes and beehives/fireplaces; as well as repainting/refinishing old cabinetry for a new, modern custom style.

Another very important part of their business includes Carrie’s custom murals, wall finishes, and color /design consultation, but also the fine art that both Jim and Carrie create for their gallery. Jim offers beautiful watercolors in a variety of themes, while Carrie offers oils, acrylics, and artwork done in Skimstone. Along with the original artwork, they offer beautiful giclees in a variety of sizes, with or without floating frames, as well as custom leather and cowhide frames. Clients and visitors traveling can enjoy a piece of their artwork on tempered glass cutting boards, tea towels, handmade wine totes, tumbled stone coasters, tiles, trivets, and greeting cards.

Stone House of Tubac also offers unique and functional handmade pottery from two local artisans: Jennifer Markham, who has resided in Green Valley for many years; and Vicki Jalving, who moved recently from Montana and now also lives in Green Valley.

Carrie and Jim strive to give back to their communities with their art. This year, Carrie was a featured artist at The Animal Shelter of Green Valley Fundraising Event. This annual event supports furry four-legged friends in need of shelter and families to love them.

In March, Carrie and Jim will be featured in the Open Studio Tour at their gallery, working on special pieces of artwork during the event. The Open Studio Tour will be held February 28th -March 1st and March 6-8th. During this time, Carrie will create another fine art piece using her favorite product, Skimstone Decorative Concrete, while Jim will work on a new watercolor painting.

On March 7th from 5:00-8:00 pm, Jim and Carrie will be featured in an art show at Bruce Baughman Gallery in Tubac. Here, they will have new longhorns and cow skulls and will be promoting their tiled murals and Skimstone fine art for interior and exterior wall art.
