Favorite Ceremony & Reception Trends

Back to Articles

Trends come and go—like the bouquet and garter toss, which seem to have been pushed off the timeline for good reason. No one wants to see a scramble on the floor over flowers or feel awkward during a sensual moment that’s better kept behind closed doors. But some trends create absolutely beautiful moments and are well worth keeping on your list of wedding traditions!

Ceremony Trends

#1. First Look & Private Vows

This is a beautiful, intimate moment between the couple, where the camera captures the raw emotion and excitement on their faces without the pressure of guests watching. Private vows give couples the opportunity to share their deepest thoughts, feelings, and dreams for their spouse—moments that can be captured on video and cherished for a lifetime.

#2. Bride & Groom Sides Switch (Usually the First Two Rows)

This simple switch in seating allows families to see the faces of their loved ones during the ceremony instead of their backs. Families absolutely love this meaningful perspective!

#3. Halfway Aisle Kiss

This creates a stunning photographic moment, captured by the photographer, showing the joy and excitement of your guests as they celebrate the end of your ceremony.

Reception Trends

#1. Couple’s First Dance with Audio Messages

A newer trend I adore is when the DJ asks the couple a series of questions separately and records their answers. During the first dance, the DJ plays those responses for the couple to hear for the very first time while they’re on the dance floor. It’s incredibly emotional—and almost always leaves guests tearing up.

#2. Father/Daughter & Mother/Son Group Dance

Another favorite trend happens halfway through the father/daughter and mother/son dances. The DJ invites all fathers and daughters—or mothers and sons—to join them on the dance floor. There won’t be a dry eye in the room, and it brings so much joy, connection, and energy to the reception.

#3. Cold Spark Fountains

Whether used for your grand entrance, first dance, or exit at the end of the night, cold spark fountains create an unforgettable wow factor. They elevate your photography and videography and are absolutely worth the addition to your budget.

Bonus: Private Last Dance

A beautifully intimate way to conclude the evening, the private last dance allows the couple to savor the final moments of their celebration—reflecting on their favorite memories of the day while quietly stepping into the promise of their future together. It also serves as a graceful transition, giving the wedding team time to prepare guests for a flawless and well-orchestrated grand exit.

If you don’t see a trend on this list that speaks to you, create your own! You never know—your unique idea might just become the next big trend in the wedding industry.
