The Sky’s the Limit at Kaskaskia College

Kaskaskia College: an affordable, accessible option that provides an excellent education for workforce training or for the foundation to transition to a four-year institution. Kaskaskia College (KC) is a community college in Centralia that serves Clinton County and the surrounding areas at its main campus, five education centers and the Crisp Manufacturing and Trades Center. Supporting over 9,800 students annually, KC offers more than 110 degrees and certificates and touts a 20:1 student-to-faculty ratio.

Kaskaskia College President George Evans himself is a proud graduate of the school. He continued his education at SIUE and Webster University and is now honored to be on the Illinois Community College Board. He feels that KC is a strong option when considering higher educational learning because of the personal touch it provides.

“Everyone is someone at Kaskaskia College,” Evans said. “We’re going to know who you are from start to finish. Students here have a sense of belonging. They feel welcome at KC and have the ability to relate and mingle with others because of small classes.”

Along with this personal touch, KC offers an affordable option when looking at college costs. KC can help families save an average of $20,000 on the first two years of school, which is a major consideration, as many students today are entering the workforce with excessive student loan debt. Taking dual credit courses while still in high school or enrolling in the KC Now program at participating high schools can help students save even more money and earn a degree faster.

KC provides many opportunities for socialization among its students, offering two barbecues each year, the annual KC Spring Picnic, and even open forums to share ideas with the school president. The community college also has a strong club presence, and there are many theater productions, music concerts, and athletic events for students and members of the community to attend throughout the year.

Understanding the importance of socialization, KC has completed recent renovations that provide more space outside the classroom for students to network, enhance social skills, and more.

“I want to thank all of those who support Kaskaskia College,” President Evans said. “I am committed to delivering on the promise of educating and improving individuals while gaining trust from the taxpayers who help provide this excellent education.”

Evans appreciates how welcoming the community is during outreach programs, and he is grateful to parents for entrusting their kids to KC.

“I owe them a debt of gratitude,” Evans said. “As higher education continues to change, I encourage parents to consider a junior college for its personal touch, affordability, and solid educational base.”
