26 Years of Wealth Stewardship

Back to Articles

For many business owners and professionals, accumulating wealth starts with long hours, personal sacrifice, and a commitment to building something meaningful—not just for themselves, but for their families.

Over time, that hard work begins to pay off, and the focus naturally shifts. It’s no longer just about earning more, but about protecting what’s been built and ensuring it supports the people and priorities that matter most.

At this stage, many choose to step back and place their trust in an investment manager. In doing so, they are gaining freedom to focus on family, pursue passions, and give back to their communities. Long hours and sacrifice gradually give way to a more intentional approach—one centered on preserving a legacy for the next generation.

During this transition — from building wealth to enjoying it — selecting the right investment partner becomes invaluable.

For over 25 years, Dixon Mitchell Investment Counsel has cared for its clients’ wealth as if it were its own.

“We are employee-owned and invested alongside our clients in the same portfolios,” explains Investment Counsellor Daley Madu. “As business owners we want our clients to do well, because their success is our success.”

Dixon Mitchell was founded in 2000 by a small group of portfolio managers with a desire to manage wealth differently. In an industry that has grown in complexity, Dixon Mitchell has kept it simple with a focused investment approach built to protect capital and generate stable returns. “Our clients worked hard to build their wealth,” says Investment Counsellor Riley Hunt. “As stewards of that wealth our job is to preserve and grow the initial investment so our clients can enjoy life without worrying about the ups and downs of the stock market.”

Rather than reacting to short-term market noise, client portfolios are invested in high-quality businesses run by exceptional management teams. An important part of the due diligence process is meeting with executive teams to ensure their interests are aligned with shareholders.

“Over the last five years our investment team has conducted over 600 meetings with management teams in Canada alone,” explains Hunt. “When we invest our clients’ money in a business, we need to understand the character, integrity and track record of management. It always comes down to people.”

Although many of Dixon Mitchell’s clients are enjoying retirement, high-earning young professionals and founders are ideal clients as they have a long runway to compound their savings.

“We love working with young families who are at the beginning of their wealth journey,” says Madu. “Supporting them through the various milestones of life is exciting and we are proud to play a small role in their success.”

Choosing the right investment partner is about more than returns—it’s about trust, alignment, and peace of mind. With a disciplined approach and a shared commitment to long-term success, Dixon Mitchell helps clients protect what they’ve built so they can focus on what matters most.
