One of the things we enjoy most at Organics Out Back is collaborating with talented local builders who truly care about architecture and detail. This recent project with Shoreline Construction is a perfect example of how strong modern architecture and thoughtful landscape design can work together to completely transform a home’s curb appeal.
Shoreline Construction has become known in San Clemente for building clean, timeless modern homes that still feel warm and inviting. On this project, one of my favorite architectural elements was the way the front yard was broken into three separate front walls along the street frontage instead of one continuous wall. That simple design move created depth, rhythm, and layers throughout the entry experience while keeping the home feeling open to the neighborhood.

The staggered walls allowed us to soften the hardscape with planting pockets, olive trees, accent lighting, and low water landscape materials while still maintaining a very modern aesthetic. At night, the project really comes alive. Carefully placed uplighting highlights the texture of the stone veneer, creates dramatic shadows from the agaves and olive trees, and gives the property a warm architectural glow from the street.
Another detail that stood out was the arched entry element framed with natural stone. In modern architecture, it is easy for homes to feel overly sharp or cold, but the subtle curve at the entry softened the overall design and added character without taking away from the clean modern lines. Combining smooth stucco, dark metal accents, natural stone, and layered lighting created a balance that feels both luxurious and approachable.
The front landscape was intentionally designed to stay simple and architectural. Instead of overcrowding the space with plants, we focused on sculptural varieties that complement the home’s geometry. Low water plantings, olive trees, and accent agaves helped reinforce the modern coastal feel that fits San Clemente so well.

Projects like this show how important it is for the builder, architect, and landscape contractor to collaborate early in the design process. When all three work together, the exterior becomes an extension of the architecture rather than an afterthought.
We are proud to have partnered with Shoreline Construction on another beautiful San Clemente project and look forward to many more.
