Park City Mountain lift upgrades get go-ahead from planning board

Park City Mountain has the necessary approvals to upgrade its Silverlode, Eagle and Eaglet chairlifts – ending a yearslong tug-of-war over the plans.
Silverlode Express will expand from a six-passenger detachable lift to an eight-passenger detachable lift.
The Eagle and Eaglet chairlifts will be replaced with a six-passenger detachable chairlift and mid-mountain station.
The project was first approved in 2022 by Park City’s planning director. Some residents challenged the decision in court, saying the upgrade plans didn’t address parking issues and mountain overcrowding.
The Utah Court of Appeals agreed in 2025. This year, the planning commission approved the plan 5-0 under a different type of permit.

Sun Peak residents ask court to overturn Utah Olympic Park development deal

Some Snyderville Basin residents have sued the Summit County Council over the development agreement it approved with the Utah Olympic Park.
The agreement allows the UOP to build a 120-room hotel and extra housing for athletes, coaches and employees.
The Sun Peak Homeowners Association claims the additions are not public benefits as required by the basin’s general plan.
The HOA says there’s no evidence that a hotel and housing will increase the tax base, as required by county code.
The residents want a judge to toss the development agreement and send it back to the council for a new deal.

Park City School District may add middle school sports through new nonprofit

Middle school students could be back in the team sports game this fall.
The Park City School District is considering a partnership with City League, a nonprofit that provides athletics opportunities to youth.
Founded by local parents in 2025, City League works with Basin Recreation on recreational sports programs for elementary school children. More than 800 kids participated during the first year.
Now the nonprofit wants to partner with the Park City School District on programs for middle schoolers.
A pilot program at Ecker Hill Middle School for the 2025-2026 school year included coed basketball and handball teams.
For the coming school year it hopes to add soccer, cross country, flag football, baseball, softball and wrestling.
