For families, this means one trusted school district supporting their child’s learning journey from the earliest years through high school. By aligning preschool programming with our elementary schools and districtwide educational goals, we can strengthen transitions into kindergarten and continue building strong relationships with students and families from the very beginning.
The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is Michigan’s state-funded preschool program for eligible four-year-olds, providing children with high-quality early learning experiences that help prepare them for success in kindergarten and beyond.
Through the 2021 bond program, Lakeview added four preschool classrooms, two each at Riverside and Prairieview Elementary Schools. These classrooms are located within our elementary schools, giving preschool students the opportunity to become familiar with their future school community while helping families access high-quality early learning close to home. The classrooms serve children from all four Lakeview elementary attendance areas, as well as families attending through Schools of Choice.
We are grateful to Community Unlimited, which previously operated preschool classrooms in the district, for their partnership in providing high-quality preschool programming for Lakeview families.
To support this next chapter, Lakeview has hired Kelley Parish as Early Childhood Director. Kelley brings more than 21 years of experience in early childhood education and family engagement, along with a strong commitment to supporting children, families, and educators. As Early Childhood Director, she will oversee Lakeview’s preschool programming and help ensure our youngest learners have a strong start to their educational journey.
At Lakeview, we believe learning begins long before kindergarten. By investing in early childhood education and creating a connected experience from preschool through graduation, we are helping every child find a place where they belong, opportunities to grow, and the support they need to thrive.
Families interested in enrolling their child in preschool should begin by completing an application through Help Me Grow Calhoun (helpmegrowcalhoun.org) and selecting “Get Connected/Referral Application.” During the application process, families can indicate their interest in attending a Lakeview preschool program.
