We hope everyone is having a good month and staying cool!

Hot and dry climates can lead to your water features and landscaping suffering due to the lack of water and the presence of consistent evaporation. Shad from Neatscape Landscaping suggests: during the wind and warmer days be sure to avoid damage to your beautiful new water features and maintain the quality of your pumps without worrying about burnout by topping off the water in your fountains, ponds, and other water features.

When looking at your fountains and ponds check for debris and skim the water to avoid clogs in your pumps. It’s important to consistently note the level of the water in your fountains and verify your pump is covered. If you find the water level is too low, add enough to make up for the evaporation and splash-out loss.

It is also important to be sure your pump is running consistently as well, moving water can prevent bugs from laying eggs and maintaining your beneficial filtration allows you to ensure your water quality is the best it can be! When adding new water to your water features, to properly maintain the health of your water and prevent algae growth, use rainwater or treated tap water (this is done by adding a water conditioner to remove chlorine).

When maintaining your water features it’s also important to note the health of your plants. The heat of the summer sun is incredibly dehydrating for all of the lush landscaping you have and it’s very beneficial to check up on your plants and their soil so they don’t dry out during these ninety degree days.

So the next time you’re out admiring all of the gorgeous landscaping of your yard and sipping lemonade or ice-cold water by your water features, be sure to check up on their water/hydration levels and your yard will stay beautiful through all of the drying summer season!
