Designing the Cabinetry of Your Dreams: Built for Beauty and Built to Last

When you invest in custom cabinetry from Springfield Woodworking, you’re selecting workmanship, design support and long-lasting construction. Every project begins with our in-house design team, who takes the time to understand your space, your style and the way you actually use your kitchen, bathroom, laundry room or office. Our goal is to turn your ideas into cabinetry that feels intentional, functional and perfectly suited to your home.

Material & Wood Choices

Springfield offers a wide range of materials and wood species, allowing you to match tone, grain and finish to your preferred style—modern, traditional or transitional. Because wood selection plays such a major role in overall durability and appearance, we will soon be releasing a dedicated article focusing specifically on wood types, how they age, and where each performs best.

Built to Last: Joinery & Construction Details

A major difference between our cabinetry and other cabinetry is how it’s built. Rather than using the thin 1/4-inch backing common in mass-produced cabinets, we use 5/8-inch backing, making each cabinet sturdier, more stable and better suited for long-term use.

Cabinets are assembled using glue and dowels, ensuring strong, tight connections that don’t loosen over time. This also includes drawer boxes; rather than using weaker staple-based construction. These details matter because they determine how well your cabinetry holds up after years of opening, closing, loading and cleaning.

Hardware & Everyday Performance

Springfield partners with one trusted supplier, Richelieu, for handles, knobs, hinges and drawer-slide systems. While the hardware adds visual style, it also plays a major role in how your cabinetry feels to use.

Soft-closing hinges and soft-close drawer slides are two upgrades most homeowners appreciate immediately. They prevent slamming, which protects both the wood and the finish. This reduces long-term wear, keeps doors aligned and extends the life of the cabinetry. Soft-close hardware also makes the home feel quieter—an especially welcome feature in busy kitchens or shared spaces. Drawers equipped with quality soft-close slides move smoothly, evenly and with a satisfying controlled glide, giving the cabinetry a solid, high-end feel.

Drawer Options & Storage Solutions

Because every cabinet is custom-built, Springfield can design drawers and storage layouts that fit exactly what you need. This includes deep kitchen drawers for pots and pans, pull-outs for spices or pantry items, bathroom vanities with organized inserts, and wall units with mixed cabinetry, open shelving and integrated storage. Our design team helps you map out what will make your daily routines easier and more efficient. The design center at our showroom features many options of everything for everyone!

Guided Design Support

Springfield’s clients value the guided process—from reviewing sample doors and finishes to choosing hardware and final layouts. With all cabinetry built locally in Manitoba, your project moves smoothly from design to production to installation.
