New Year, New You with Even Keel Coaching

Happy New Year!

My hope is that everyone has had a wonderful holiday season filled with joy and peace.

For so many of us, December is filled with plans that ramp up as the month draws to Christmas and New Year’s, then suddenly it’s 2026! We are then faced with a new, empty calendar full of potential – fresh possibilities and the ubiquitous New Year’s Resolutions. Let’s make this New Year different.

Step One: Dream Your Life to Come

I’m recommending that, as you plan for the New Year, you analyze if you are truly content with who and what you are, or if you want to be more than you have been. More than the simple dieting or exercise kinds of resolutions, but really explore who you want to become.

Walt Disney famously said, “If you can dream, you can do it.” So dream your life to come. Don’t spend just a few minutes, but hours and days, so that you have a real, tangible sense of who you want to become. That is the essential first step.

Step Two: Build Your Team

Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s are dominated by sports. Teams competing in playoffs and Bowl games all have one thing in common: None of them would have gotten to where they are if they had not worked together as a team. So you should do the same.

Don’t try and reshape your future alone. Instead, get together with a small group (3–4 max.) of trusted friends or family and share with them your plan to have a better life than you have in the past. Challenge them to dream about their own lives, and what they would love it to look like. They don’t have to share your goals, but each one should have their own dream.

Step Three: Commit to Accountability

Get together early in the year and share your visions in detail. Not just what you would like it to be, but what future you are dedicated to creating. Each one shares their goals for their future self. Together, determine what actual steps you will take so their dream can become a reality. This might involve committing to classes, training, and maybe seeking outside resources to accelerate your commitment.

Commit to meeting regularly – at least twice a month – to share your victories and challenges. Hold each other accountable to fulfill the needed steps to accomplish your new lifestyles. This will not be a quick fix, but with the group working together, those dreams can become a reality.
