Small Changes, Big Impact: New Year Wellness at Thrive Chiropractic
It’s the beginning of a new year, and with that comes a time of reflection and resolution. While I am certain that most people set resolutions with the best of intentions, statistically it is shown that more than 80% of new year resolutions fail and nearly half that number occurs before the end of January.
Often, resolutions fail because they are not realistic or become quickly overwhelming when combined with the day-to-day stressors of real life. Big changes can feel like too much very quickly. These are some of the recommendations I give patients when they ask about attainable ways to make changes that have an impact on their health:
- Hydrate – Our bodies are 70% water and require hydration to maintain this balance. Proper hydration is also required to bring nutrients to your cells and to rid cells of waste. Aim for half of your body weight in ounces of water per day.
- Move – We were designed to be in motion! Movement is required to build strength and maintain mobility. Motion that causes oxygen to be pumped to our brains can help reduce stress levels and prevent age related brain changes. It doesn’t need to be aggressive or hard core. Getting out and walking is one of the most underrated exercises out there. Just aiming to move your body a little each day is a game changer.
- Sleep – Sleep time is when our bodies restore and heal. When we are depleted of appropriate sleep, stress hormones are elevated, cognition is down, and energy is low. Start practicing good sleep hygiene by shutting down screen time 30 minutes before bed, making your room cool and dark, and avoiding caffeine and alcohol before bed.
- Get adjusted – Chiropractic care isn’t just for pain! Our main goal is to help your body function at its best, and when your body is moving well, it allows your nervous system to do its job which reduces stress levels, decreases pain and increases performance.
We would love to help you at Thrive Chiropractic with your health goals for the new year!
