Taking Care of Our Skin in Winter

Our skin in winter. We’ve all experienced it: dry and flaky, itchy. It may even feel like the wrinkles somehow look worse. And, given that, we know what we should be doing: moisturize daily, put on sunscreen (yes! even in the winter!), and avoid overly fragrant cleansers that strip your skin of its natural oils. You might even use a humidifier or try to eat more fruits and vegetables that hydrate the body as well as the skin.

But if you are doing all that, and your skin still does not look as vibrant as it does during the summer, what are your options?

Dermaplaning: Because the winter brings flaky skin, dermaplaning can help tremendously. Using a special blade, the technician removes dead cells, revealing fresher skin underneath. Allowing new skin growth, it can reduce the appearance of fine lines and improve skin tone. It can even help to allow products you already use to be absorbed easier into the skin. It leaves your face looking younger, fresher and healthier.

Hydrafacial: With winter leaving your skin looking dull and dehydrated, hydrafacials counteract that by removing the outer layer of dead skin cells and even debris that accumulates on the skin throughout the year from sun exposure, makeup and facial cleansers and moisturizers. A vacuum-powered suction painlessly removes impurities like black heads and other impurities from the pores. Finally, the skin is treated with antioxidants and peptides that nourish and enhance the newer and younger clean skin.

Chemical Peels: Chemical Peels are a great option during the winter months, as it is time to slough off that old skin! They help to reduce scarring and blemishes. During the procedure, the skin is cleansed and a solution applied that might cause a brief stinging sensation. It can help with sun damage, deep wrinkles, and even pre-cancerous growths. By stimulating collagen production, it can reduce acne scars and improve the texture and tone of the skin.

The effects of the winter do not have to be deleterious on your skin. Besides dermaplaning, hydrafacials and chemical peels, there are many other options to help your skin look vibrant during those months when we want it to stay healthy— and maybe even allow it to look better than it ever has.
