The Arts Matter in Monterey area

Happy New Year!  Hope you can make the arts part of your life in 2026. Pacific Repertory Theatre will present a British Invasion Tribute Concert January 1–11, Thursday through Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2pm. Music from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s will be recreated live on stage, including forty classic hits by The Beatles, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Animals, Herman’s Hermits, Manfred Mann and more!

Enchantrix will present The Elephant Man by Bernard Pomerance January 9–30 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7pm. Their venue is located at 1534 Fremont Boulevard in Seaside. This true story follows the transformation of John Merrick, a horribly deformed young man, to an urbane gentleman. Tickets are available at Enchantrix.net.

My husband and I recently had the opportunity to attend an event at Trotter Galleries’ Pacific Grove location that was sponsored by the Monterey Museum of Art. This location is directly across from the Pacific Grove City Hall and is both a museum and a gallery.  It contains multiple collections, some owned by the Trotters and some for sale. It is a treasure trove of early California art, and the Trotters, who also have a gallery in Carmel, are always willing to educate their clients.

After purchasing a Mary DeNeal Morgan painting in San Francisco, my husband and I bought our second painting by her from the Trotters. Our collection has grown over the years, and we are happy to say that our paintings will be featured at the Monterey Museum of Art in an exhibit this coming spring. You will also see paintings owned by the Trotters in this exhibition.

It is really worth your time to visit both of Trotter Galleries’ locations.  You will learn a lot about art, and if you are looking for a small group activity for a school or a social club, keep them in mind.
