Combating Cleaning Challenges that come with Winter

With colder weather and peak holiday season, keeping your home warm and inviting is more important than ever. As experts in the cleaning industry, we’ve witnessed first-hand some of the most common challenges people face during winter months and recommend these tips to keep your home feeling clean and cozy.

First and foremost, heavy duty rubber mats to keep by the entryway for boots and shoes are just one simple way to prevent snow and mud from being tracked further into the house; the rubber mats can be taken outside later, to shake off the dry debris and sprayed/wiped with almost any all-purpose cleaner and cloth. We recommend microfiber cloths because they trap dirt, dust, and liquids much more effectively than paper towels, and can be laundered for easy reuse. Shoe racks are great options too but often lead to dirt, dried grass, tiny rocks, etc. falling off your shoes and onto the floor, being pushed into corners and under the shoe rack, which requires more effort to move to clean.

Second, invest in a coat rack. A coat rack provides a designated spot to hang coats, scarves, hats, and bags, helping to avoid clutter in entryways or living spaces. It makes everything easy to grab when you’re heading out the door, especially if you’ve got a busy family or multiple people coming in and out of the house. Many coat racks also have hooks or shelves for additional items like hats, umbrellas, or bags, offering more storage without the need for extra furniture. Lastly, with heating systems in constant use, dust accumulation increases. We recommend replacing air filters regularly; filters trap dust, dirt, pollen, pet dander, and other airborne particles, preventing them from circulating through your home. This is particularly important for those with allergies or respiratory conditions. Replacing air filters as needed can protect your heating system and enhance performance. Air filters prevent dust and debris from entering the system, which can help protect sensitive components like the blower fan, coils, and ducts from getting clogged. When a filter is clogged with debris, the system must work harder to circulate air, leading to higher energy consumption.

Winter can bring unique cleaning challenges, but with the right strategies, you can keep your home clean, comfortable, and organized all season long. From preventing snow and mud from tracking indoors to maintaining your heating system’s efficiency, the key is staying proactive and consistent. A little effort goes a long way!
