Family Dentistry, Then and Now: Why Independence Matters
For more than 50 years, Marks Family Dentistry has been proud to care for families right here in
our community. Many of our patients are our neighbors that we see at local events, schools, and
stores. Often, they are second and third generation patients who grew up in our chairs and now
return with families of their own.
Over the years, dentistry has changed in many ways. One of the most noticeable shifts has been
the growth of large dental service organizations and corporate dental groups. Many offices across
the country, sometimes even those with familiar local names, are now part of multi office
corporations. While this model works for some, Marks Family Dentistry has intentionally
remained a family owned, independent practice.
For us, independence means dentistry stays personal. It allows our doctors to rely on experience,
clinical judgment, and long-standing relationships with patients rather than corporate policies or
financial goals. It also means our team can take the time to truly know our patients and not just
their charts.
Another important part of our philosophy is how we approach dental insurance. Over time, we
have found that insurance limitations interfere with individualized care. Insurance guidelines are
designed to manage benefits, not determine what is best for our patient’s long term oral health.
When faced with choosing between insurance rules and patient focused care, we will choose our
patients every time.
Remaining independent and non-participating allows us to focus on what matters most. We take
the time to properly diagnose and understand each patient’s needs, recommend treatment options
based on what is best for the individual, and offer alternatives whenever available. We believe
patients should feel informed, comfortable, and confident in their decisions, and we stand behind
the care we provide. Our goal will always be to deliver honest, high-quality dentistry using
trusted materials, skilled laboratories, and techniques we believe in while keeping care
transparent and approachable.
