February Gem of the Month: Amethyst

Amethyst, February’s birthstone, has been cherished for centuries for its rich violet hue and for the meaning and mythology associated with it. In various cultures, amethyst is revered for its purported healing properties and believed to promote calmness, clarity, and inner peace, helping quiet the mind and encourage thoughtful reflection.

In ancient Greece, amethyst was associated with Dionysus, the god of wine. It was thought to protect its wearer from intoxication to such an extent that drinking vessels were sometimes carved from the stone. During the Middle Ages, amethyst took on spiritual significance, worn by bishops as a symbol of humility, sincerity, and wisdom.

Today, amethyst remains one of the most beloved gemstones, appreciated for both its beauty and symbolism. Whether worn as a birthstone or simply chosen for its calming presence, amethyst continues to represent balance, intention, and timeless elegance, making it a meaningful choice well beyond February.
