Trent Woods—It’s Magical!

We are enjoying the warmest Holiday season that Trent Woods has seen in a long time. It is so heartwarming to see the sidewalks in Trent Woods filled with people enjoying the unseasonably warm weather. Warren Buffett reminded us how those who came before us have left a legacy! He said, “Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.”   And Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”  A few years ago, a handful of thoughtful Trent Woods residents and leaders changed our small world by adding sidewalks, giving us a safe place to walk for pleasure and for safe exercise.

Speaking of shade trees, Trent Woods is home to some of the largest Magnolia trees in the South.  They are Southern Magnolia, which can reach heights of 50 to 80 feet!  Every year, a car pulls into my driveway, and someone asks if they can cut some blooms for their holiday decorating. Of course, I am happy to oblige.  The enormous white fragrant flowers and glossy leaves make excellent wreaths and mantel decor.

Most of Trent Woods is within walking distance of the New Bern Golf and Country Club. It is currently undergoing a significant renovation to better accommodate its growing membership.  The club continues to improve its facilities for golf, swimming, tennis, boating, and dining, among many other activities.  This is just one more reason why homes in Trent Woods hold their value and continue to appreciate. There were times this past year when Trent Woods had fewer than five homes for sale. It benefits sellers but presents a challenge for buyers.  However, as 2025 comes to an end, we see a more balanced inventory in Trent Woods, which will help buyers choose Trent Woods as a place to call home.

A visionary leader years ago decided Trent Woods needed its own Christmas parade every year.  What started with the Trent Woods Garden Club over a decade ago has grown into an event that brings joy to residents, especially seniors who can watch from home.  The parade this year was bigger and better than ever, with town clerk Holly Willis orchestrating the chaos that can come with continued growth.  Not every small town can pull this off, but somehow the leaders and residents of Trent Woods manage it beautifully.

Another holiday tradition in Trent Woods is the famous light show on Canterbury Road, which creates a magical holiday drive-through experience.  Unique displays, like large “tree balls” at night, appear to float in the sky.  This yearly tradition, started by one visionary, grows in popularity every year.  In case you missed it this year, be sure to put this on your holiday calendar for 2026.

We are now saying goodbye to 2025!

I have heard people say it was the best year ever, the worst year ever, and that they can’t wait for the New Year! What is your story?

The bottom line is that we made it through the year. Resilience is a beautiful thing.  We have survived the hard times, we are thankful for the good times, and, best of all, we have grown.  And we are one year wiser…

Does this relate to real estate? Well, actually, it does.  You see, home is the safe place we go to lick our wounds, celebrate our wins, and it’s our quiet refuge to reflect on our lives.  Our home provides us with a safe place to be ourselves, free from the outside pressure to be who the world expects us to be.

I was talking to a friend the other day, and we both agreed that we live in a pretty magical place. New Bern, NC, is an outlier; not all towns offer what we take for granted every day.  A place where we can live at a pace we see fit, as fast as you want to go, or a pace where you can savor the journey, all while being surrounded by our historical downtown and mighty rivers.

Our local real estate picture does not mirror the one you see on the daily news.  Yes, the national economy has some impact, but overall, New Bern continues on a path of sure-footed growth.  Our housing prices have remained consistent amid continued appreciation, benefiting both sellers and buyers.

New Bern is a sure bet, and the outlook remains the same, if not better, in the coming year.

Real estate remains the single best wealth determiner for our residents.  Unlike stocks and bonds, real estate is a physical asset that you can see and manage directly.  Whether it’s your personal residence or a rental property, the benefits are appreciation and passive cash flow.

So what are you waiting for?  I often hear “Man, I wish I had bought that property when the price was >>>>>!! “.  The reality is that 5 years from now we will be saying the same thing about today’s prices!  So as with all important decisions in life, the smart thing to do is to consult with a professional for guidance.

Team New Bern studies the market daily and is dedicated to help you make the right choice at the right timing.

Stop by our new downtown office at 119 Middle Street for one of Debbie’s famous coffees and chat with us about the market. We look forward to serving you in 2026!
