Why I am passionate about First Aid and Why You Should Be Too
Hi friends,
I’m Erika, and I’ve spent years training people right here in Durham Region in First Aid, CPR, and AED response. Every class I teach, every hand I guide while someone learns CPR, reminds me of one profound truth. We are stronger, safer, and more confident when we know how to help one another.
Many people sign up for a first aid course because it looks good on a resume, or because it is required for work. But what I have seen, again and again, is that what happens after you learn the skills is what truly matters. Imagine being at a family gathering and suddenly someone collapses. Their skin turns pale. The room goes quiet. In that moment, could you step forward with calm, trained hands and do something that changes everything? That is not hypothetical. That is real life, and this training makes you ready for it.
I have had students come to a course thinking they will never need this. Then, six months later, they send me a message saying they used what they learned. It might be CPR at a sports field, helping a child who was hurt at home, or recognizing when someone needed emergency care. I have even watched young babysitters, just 12 or 13 years old, confidently call for help and care for a smaller child until parents arrived. Many of them tell me that moment changed how they see themselves.
First Aid training is not about fear. It is about confidence. Confidence that you can act, not panic. Confidence that you can lead, not freeze. Confidence that you can help, not stand by. Every time someone walks out of one of our courses, they take with them something incredibly powerful. The ability to protect life.
These courses are not just for the workplace. We offer youth programs that gently introduce kids to safety and awareness, babysitter courses that prepare young leaders for responsibility, and flexible learning options that fit into busy schedules.
As a small thank you to our Audley North neighbours, I am offering10 percent off any Durham First Aid coursewhen you register using the code AUDLEY. It is simply my way of making it a little easier for families, teens, and professionals in our community to take that first step toward being prepared.
This February, I want to invite you, your neighbour, your co-worker, your teenager, and your whole community to consider taking a course with us. Not because you might need it, but because you might. And if that moment ever comes, you will be infinitely glad you chose to be ready.
Together, we can make Durham a community where people do not just hope someone helps. They know someone will.
See you in class,
Erika
