Why I Love the Real Estate Business

After 31 years in the real estate business, I’m still excited to do what I do. Real estate is more than transactions, contracts and closings. It’s a career built on relationships, problem-solving and the privilege of helping people move into new chapters of their lives. Here are some of the reasons I love this business and why I can’t imagine doing anything else.

It’s a family business.

In 2020 my daughter, Sally, joined the practice, making it truly a family endeavor. She has watched me go room to room in homes, bringing new life to them with staging and accessing both sellers’ needs to present their home at its best. In her early years, Sally spent considerable time previewing properties and neighborhoods in person for buyer clients. This set her up to decide the four main determining factors in real estate: location, the property’s condition, market conditions and pricing.

It has been my joy to see my daughter understand the value of defined processes that ensure our clients achieve success, which is our collective joy as well.

“I fell in love with this career for many of the same reasons [my mom] did,” Sally shares. “I’m so grateful she pushed me to give it a try and that I now get to be a part of cultivating and growing what she has spent so many years building, and to get to do it in the town I grew up in makes it that much more special.”

I feel so blessed!

Every day brings a new story.

No two clients are the same. One day we’re helping a young couple purchase their first home, the next we might be guiding empty nesters through a downsizing process after decades of memories in their home. Each situation challenges us to listen, adapt and advocate.

We get to make a real difference in people’s lives.

Buying or selling a home is one of the biggest life decisions anyone can make. Being trusted to guide that process is an honor. We are the calm in stressful moments, the voice of clarity when emotions run high and the negotiator fighting for our client’s best outcome. Seeing the relief and joy at a closing table is so gratifying.

The challenge of the market excites us.

The market is always changing, and that’s part of the thrill. Shifts in interest rates, inventory, buyer behavior and local trends keep us on our toes. We have to stay informed and strategic, keeping our expertise relevant.

The relationships last long after closing.

Some of our closest friendships started as client relationships. Real estate isn’t a one-and-done business.  It’s built on trust, and we’re grateful every time clients call for advice.

Our genuine love of homes and community drives us.

There’s something special about walking through a property and imagining the possibilities. We learn about architecture, design trends, neighborhoods and HOAs. Helping people find not just a house but a place to call home is incredibly rewarding.

At its core, real estate is a people business.

That’s why we love it. It’s dynamic, personal, challenging and deeply fulfilling. After all these years, we’re proud to say, “We don’t just sell real estate—we help people move forward in life.”
