Bike Tours and So Much More

I mentioned in a recent article for Doylestown Living that I was partnering with local business owner Brian Boger of Bike Works and the renowned travel company Backroads to start offering bike and e-bike tours all over the world. Well, the wait is finally over and we’re now happy to share these experiences with our faithful clientele.

If you aren’t familiar with this kind of vacation / adventure let me recount for you my own experience with Backroads last August aboard one of their Rhine River Cruise Bike Tours.

Picture this: you’re hopping on a luxury river ship in Basel, bike helmet in hand, ready to cruise and ride your way through some of the prettiest places in Europe.

You’ll roll through Switzerland, France, Germany and the Netherlands aboard a ship that will take you to beautiful bike paths, incredible food and small towns that look like they were built for postcards.

You start in Basel and settle into your cozy cabin, but not for long. Soon, you’re riding through the Black Forest, biking past vineyards and wandering through half-timbered streets in Strasbourg and past the massive Gothic cathedral.

Next up is wine-loving Breisach, where you pedal Alsace’s famous wine route and sip something crisp afterward because you earned it. Then it’s into Germany for Ludwigshafen and romantic Heidelberg. The castle ruins, the cobblestone streets and beer gardens provide an energy that will make you want to stay longer.

And just when you think you’re on sensory overload from the endless beauty, the river tightens into the legendary Rhine Gorge. You’ll ride past cliffs, medieval forts, cute riverside towns and endless vineyards. Stops in places like Rüdesheim, Bingen and Lahnstein make it feel like you’re pedaling through a living fairy tale.

Farther north, you hit Düsseldorf, where modern art meets old-world charm and then it’s on to the Netherlands. Utrecht greets you with smooth, easy bike paths (because biking is basically a religion there) and then you glide into Amsterdam, where the canals, bridges and bikes make the perfect finale to your European adventure.

What makes this trip magic is the balance: energizing rides during the day, then eating, relaxing and sleeping in total comfort while the ship carries you to your next destination. You can ride as much or as little as you want, choose gentle riverside paths or rolling wine-country roads and always end up somewhere unforgettable.

If you love the idea of biking without giving up great food, sweet accommodations and a front-row seat to Europe’s greatest hits, this trip is an easy “yes.” It’s active, it’s scenic, it’s delicious and it leaves you feeling like you just checked off half your travel bucket list without ever rushing to catch a train.

If I’ve piqued your interest and this sounds like something you’d be interested in experiencing for yourself, pedal over to your local bicycle shop, Bike Works, in Doylestown, or call Newton Travel Xperts to plan your next freewheeling adventure.
