Unlocking Character in Real Estate
Character is what first attracts a buyer to a home. It’s what captures our attention in a photo, an online listing, or a video on an Instagram story. It serves as the impetus for a prospective buyer to seek additional information regarding a home.
Every house in every price point has character. Sometimes it just needs to be uncovered, polished, and allowed to shine. It could be the color of a front door. Perhaps it’s the architectural details of a roof line and dormers that draw you in. Built-ins, whether it be contemporary or classic, and flooring, tile or wood, all influence the character of a home.
Character doesn’t have to be man made, often the character of a home is captured in a water view on a cove, or a pink sunset over the hills, gardens, flower boxes or sunshine captured through antique window panes. Character is responsible for creating that emotional pull that makes you say….. ”I’ve got to have this house.”
Often when we live in a home, we take these details for granted. Surprisingly it can be the small touches that create warmth in a room. My favorite small touch is a plant, or if you have the space, a collection of plants. Bringing the outdoors inside is always a welcomed backdrop.
Collaborating with your realtor, home stager, or design professional before you list your home can help unlock the character. We always suggest using a professional photographer for the listing photos. Professionals have the skill for highlighting the best details in the right light to create that emotional response that makes you feel at home.
Whether you are making a move or creating more comfort in your current home, identifying the hidden character in your home is a great way to start. Enjoy the adventure! For more information, contact Allyson Cotton, acotton@wpsir.com
