Homeowners have a lot to keep in mind when it comes to maintaining their property. Visible issues are easy to tackle, while “silent” issues often go undetected or ignored until it’s too late. These issues are often related to plumbing. Below are some of the main plumbing concerns to be aware of, and address before they affect your wallet.

1. Leaky Faucets & Pipes

That slow “drip, drip, drip” sound that you hear might seem innocent enough, but each drop is increasing your water bill- and it does add up. The same goes for leaky pipes, not only from wasted water, but from mold, structural damage, or sudden bursts that can occur over time causing thousands of dollars in repairs.

2. Clogged Drains and Toilets

Slow or blocked drains in sinks, showers, or toilets are frustrating, but not might make the top of your priority list. When things like hair, grease, soap scum, and flushed items back-up over time, they can escalate into even larger clogs causing more, unseen damage and becoming more costly.

3. Running Toilets

A running toilet is usually the easiest fix, often caused by faulty flappers or fill valves, but because we can “jiggle” the handle to make it stop, we don’t consider it a serious issue. However, a constantly running toilet silently wastes hundreds of gallons monthly, making this unexpected high usage and even higher bill.

4. Low Water Pressure

When you begin noticing irregular or lower water pressure than what you’re used to in shower heads, home appliances, and outdoor hoses, clearly something is wrong. Multiple factors can cause low water pressure, including mineral build-up, pipe corrosion, leaks, and even municipal issues. Don’t ignore the signs, it will only worsen the problem.

5. Water Heater Problems

Sudden water heater failures can easily be avoided by recognizing the warning signs. Strange noises, leaks, inconsistent temperatures, or simply no water at all, are signs that your water heater is failing due to sediment buildup, tank corrosion, or worse. Replacing a water heater is frustrating, stressful and extremely costly.

Regular maintenance, like annual inspections, and prompt fixes for minor issues, can prevent many of these costly problems from becoming emergencies. If you are experiencing anything above, consult a license and trusted plumber immediately.
