Rejoice the Rejection Letters
“Rejected by every college applied to, I now compete with the same institutions that rejected me.”
– John Casson, President of The Media Arts Center
Every parent wants the best for their child. But too often, the definition of “best” gets tangled up in test scores, acceptance letters, and outdated ideas about what success looks like. The truth is, life doesn’t unfold in straight lines — and neither do the most meaningful careers.
You Will Be All Right
For generations, young people were told their GPA would determine their worth. Today, we know better. The most successful professionals are driven by curiosity, creativity, and resilience — qualities that can’t be measured by transcripts. The Media Arts Center was built for students who have these qualities in abundance but may not thrive in traditional academic settings.
The New Landscape of Opportunity
The media world has changed more in the past ten years than in the previous fifty. Digital platforms, streaming content, podcasts, and online broadcasting have made communication more immediate, visual, and democratized than ever before. For driven, media-minded students, that means opportunity — not obstacle. We created The Media Arts Center to give talented students a direct line to those opportunities, through hands-on training, small classes, and instructors who’ve been there — on set, on camera, and online.
Beyond the Classroom
What makes The Media Arts Center different isn’t just what we teach — it’s how we teach. Our students don’t wait four years to start their careers; they start building reels and portfolios from day one. Many are on-air before they graduate. And the network they develop through our internships and industry connections lasts far beyond their coursework.
A Different Kind of Success Story
Years ago, a guidance counselor told me I wasn’t “college material.” I’ve since built companies, created opportunities, and now compete with the very institutions I couldn’t get into. That’s not because I proved anyone wrong — it’s because someone finally helped me see I could write my own story. That’s what we do here every day.
At the Media Arts Center, we’re not an “alternative.” We’re a launchpad — a place where passion turns into purpose, and purpose turns into success.
