Spring Is Here: Preventative Maintenance at South Branch Garage

After the harsh winter months, it’s always a good idea to have your vehicle looked over. We call it a spring check, which includes inspecting steering, suspension, exhaust, belts, battery, wipers, whether there are any leaks, and tire condition. You should be notified if anything needs attention, or what may be needed in the near future.

With spring comes tire season. We’ll make sure your summer tires are still in good shape, and that there is no weather cracking, and that the tires have good tread depth.

Even though we don’t have snow and ice in the summer, good tread is still very important in rainy weather conditions. Good tire tread helps you stop more quickly and helps prevent hydroplaning. At the same time you are changing over your tires, you should have your brakes checked. Having your brakes checked regularly is good practice as well as preventative maintenance. A brake check ensures your caliper pins and caliper pistons are not sticking or seized. If this were to happen, it wears the brake pads faster and can warp the rotors, which can cause pulsation/vibration in the steering wheel or brake pedal when braking. Having your brakes checked will also let you know how your brakes are wearing, and how much friction material remains, as well as the condition of your rotors.

Preventative maintenance is always prudent, and car owners should be mindful of. It may cost a little now, but such maintenance could save you in the long run, and possibly help you save for future repairs that might be required before they become a safety issue and need to be dealt with right away.
