April is truly the beginning of our summer season, and it is an exciting one. Pacific Repertory Theatre will present Beetlejuice JR from April 24 through May 17 in the Founder’s Theatre. The 60‑minute musical adaptation of the movie Beetlejuice includes new music by award-winning songwriting team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. The musical brings “the ghost with the most” to life. It’s a story about teenager, Lydia Deetz who, while grieving the loss of her mother, moves into a new house haunted by a recently deceased couple and Beetlejuice, a demon with a zest for life. This musical is a blend of comedy and dark humor, and you can expect it to be wonderful.
Paper Wing Theatre & Supper Club presents You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, beginning May 8 and running through May 31. As part of Paper Wing’s 25th anniversary season, this classic play puts a smile on everyone’s face. One of the first roles that I played upon moving to California in 1979 was “Lucy,” and it was a performance that was always a favorite of mine.
Remember, the first-ever historic retrospective show of artwork by Mary DeNeale Morgan will open at the Monterey Museum of Art on April 30 and run through August 2026. She was among the founders of the Carmel Art Association. She was also a member of the National Association of Woman Painters and Sculptors and the American Federation of Artists. In 1928 Miss Morgan was named as one of our nation’s foremost woman artists by Scribner’s Magazine. A total of 63 important pieces of her works will be shown, and a beautiful book will accompany the exhibition. Bring your family and friends to this once in a lifetime event.
From the Del Piero family: As many of you may know, Teresa passed away recently on March 3. She wanted this column published and worked hard to complete it. She loved living on the Monterey Peninsula. Two days before her death she said, “I tried my best.” We should always try to do our best!
