To The Moon And Back

Colonel James Irwin was a NASA  astronaut with NASA who successfully walked on the surface of the moon during Apollo 15’s mission and he became the 8th person out of a very exclusive group of only twelve people throughout the world’s history who have walked on the moon.  That would be a very “heady” lifetime achievement to have such an elite distinction.

Instead of pride, Irwin displayed great humility.  Listen to his own words—

“As I was returning to earth, I realized that I was a servant—not a celebrity.  So I am here as God’s servant on planet Earth to share what I have experienced that others might know the glory of God.

“Being on the moon had a profound spiritual impact upon my life.  Before I entered space with the Apollo 15 mission, I was a silent Christian, but I feel the Lord sent me to the moon so I could return to the earth and share His Son, Jesus Christ.  After all, Jesus walking on the earth was far more important than mankind walking on the moon.”

As we approach the Easter season, may we pause to worship and to remember that truth.  Jesus coming to the earth, living among us, dying on our behalf, is what makes the difference between living and dying, existence and exhilaration, heaven and hell.
