Are you or a loved one a former military veteran or a spouse or widow of a veteran? If so, long-
term care benefits may be available to the veteran or the veteran’s spouse or widow.
The Aid and Attendance program through the Veterans Administration is a program that provides a stipend to a veteran or a veteran’s spouse or widow for in-home care or care at a long-term care facility.
If the veteran served in the military for at least 90 days with one of those days on active duty during a Period of War, then benefits may be available. The veteran must have obtained a discharge that is not dishonorable. The Periods of War are specifically listed and do not require that the veteran have been in active combat. There are income and asset guidelines for recipients.
The stipend through the Aid and Attendance program is extremely valuable to a veteran’s family in boosting their ability to afford in-home care or care in a facility.
Payment of these benefits is a great way for the Veterans Administration to honor those who gave their time, and sometimes their lives, on behalf of our country. Your local VA accredited will be able to provide you with more information.
