Member-volunteers are essential at the Country Club of Green Valley as they play key roles in the day-to-day functioning of the club. That’s a win-win for the club and the volunteers. It’s just one thing that makes CCGV a unique club and a special place to belong.
“Our members who volunteer are amazing,” said General Manager Seth Hagen. “Their hard work allows us to keep investing more and more of our revenues into improving and maintaining the golf course.”
Judy Noren joined CCGV in 2003 and said it has been her home ever since. Nearly every day since 2013, Judy has been running carts between the cart storage barns and the front staging area. She said it’s not so much a job but just one way she can give back to the club she loves.
Sharon O’Brien and Becky Smith volunteer to run and wash golf carts. Sharon told me, “I’ve only been doing the carts for 12 years,” but then she quickly added, “but not every day. I’ve only been doing that for 5 years.” Becky and her husband Harry joined CCGV in 2014. She, too, enjoys volunteering and said it helps her stay physically active and busy when she’s not out playing golf.
Kathy Ingham is a true fixture at CCGV. In addition to leading member communications, Kathy is the master volunteer organizer of all things social. She’s truly our go-to for nearly everything!
Carl and Linda Bergman joined CCGV in 2012. Carl has served as the club’s driving range manager for several years. He organizes a group of volunteers who take turns picking the range and washing balls. Linda has served many years on the club’s social committee and created and continues to lead the club’s ever-expanding Putters Club. They both say that volunteering gives them a real sense of ownership.
The Bunge brothers – Eric and Andy – spend just six months each year in Green Valley, but they, too, love CCGV and welcome the opportunity to contribute sweat equity whenever they can. They both travel from Minnesota with tools and chainsaws in tow to help with the course and club buildings, as much as possible.
Libby Darnell is another member volunteer who helps with golf carts, among other things. Libby is also quite a painter, and while she and her husband, Rich, generally spend their summers in Oregon, she plans to travel back to Green Valley this summer to work on a large painting project inside the clubhouse.
Board President Pam White said these are just a few of the many members who volunteer at CCGV, and she can’t praise them enough. “Every day, I am humbled by the ongoing dedication of our wonderful volunteers. They all give so much of themselves for the betterment of our club.” White adds “CCGV is a very special place. We’re a family and it truly shows when we all pitch-in and work together.”
