For this month’s Tech Corner article, we are going to stay focused on the ever-growing threat of cyber security attacks and some tips to keeping your home and family life as safe and secure as possible.
Cybersecurity attacks aren’t necessarily one of those things that you can just pretend will not happen, or that cyber threats don’t exist. Cyber threats exist in your household, outside of your household, and most likely in every part of any “system” you use in your daily interactions.
Some tips to staying safe and secure in this cyber world:
- Keep your home networks secure
- Use strong Wi-Fi passwords
- Always monitor your connected devices
- Perform updates regularly to your devices
- Keep backups of your data
- Use security software on your machines
- Use strong password techniques
- Don’t use simple and easy passwords
- Don’t use passwords that are part of your public profiles
- Use Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) whenever possible
- Always be skeptical on emails
- Don’t fall for phishing scams
- Don’t fall for click-bait scams
- If something seems suspicious, it is, and delete it
- Keep your social profiles as private as possible
- Don’t connect with strangers on social networks
- Don’t post all of your private details
- Don’t use passwords that are found in your public profile
- Be aware of any third party apps and the access you provide
- Change your password regularly
- Don’t share passwords from social media on your private websites (i.e. banking, credit cards, email)
- Use Multi Factor Authorization
