Travel looks different for many people today. Instead of trying to see as much as possible in a short amount of time, more travelers are looking for experiences that feel easier, more enriching, and less stressful.
That’s one reason river cruising has become such a popular way to explore Europe and beyond.
What makes river cruising unique is its simplicity. You unpack once, your hotel travels with you, and each morning you arrive in the heart of a new destination. There’s no constant packing, airport hopping, or rushing from place to place.
For many travelers, that slower, more thoughtful pace becomes part of the appeal.
A typical day might include a guided tour through a charming village, time exploring local culture and cuisine, and a relaxing afternoon watching the scenery drift by from the ship’s deck. It’s a way to experience more without feeling worn down by the journey itself.
One thing I always remind clients is that not all river cruises feel the same. Each cruise line offers a slightly different style of travel, and finding the right fit makes all the difference.
Earlier this year, I spent time onboard several river ships in Europe so I could experience those differences firsthand.

For example, AmaWaterways offers a balance of comfort, flexibility, and included excursions. Guests appreciate having choices throughout the journey, whether that means different tour options or a more relaxed pace onboard.
Tauck, on the other hand, is known for a highly curated experience where nearly every detail is thoughtfully handled, from start to finish. Many travelers love the seamless nature of the journey and the elevated level of service.
Neither approach is better. They simply appeal to different travel styles, and part of my role is helping clients determine which fits them best.
Another exciting trend is that once travelers experience their first river cruise, they often begin exploring destinations beyond Europe.
Journeys along the Nile in Egypt, the Mekong in Southeast Asia, and Colombia’s Magdalena River are becoming increasingly popular for travelers seeking deeper cultural discovery while still enjoying comfort and ease.
These itineraries allow travelers to experience remarkable destinations with the confidence that every detail is carefully planned and guided along the way.

At its heart, river cruising is about traveling well. It allows you to slow down, immerse yourself in a destination, and enjoy the journey itself instead of simply moving from one place to another.
For many travelers, that changes everything.
This summer, I’ll be hosting a private local gathering called Extraordinary Journeys at the Fairfield Glade Center on July 29 from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. I’ll be joined by travel partners from AmaWaterways and Tauck as we explore a collection of exceptional river cruises, small-ship experiences, and immersive land itineraries around the world in a relaxed, conversational setting.
Designed for guests who appreciate personalized service, convenience, and thoughtfully curated experiences, this special event will offer inspiration and insight for future adventures. Seating will be limited, and reservations are required. If this season of life has you thinking differently about how you’d like to see the world, I would be delighted to welcome you. Contact me at (931) 807-1301 to reserve your spot.
In the meantime, if you’re curious about whether river cruising is right for you or ready to begin planning your next getaway, reach out, and let’s talk through your options. I’d love to help you find a cruise that feels less like a checklist and more like an experience you’ll remember long after you return home.
