Back-to-School Car Checklist: Ace the Drop-Off Line

  • Copied!

The kids aren’t the only ones heading back to a packed schedule. Your car is about to pull double duty with carpools, cleat-muddy backseats, and the daily sprint to beat the bell. Give it a quick physical now and it’ll return the favor all semester.

Here’s the pre-season checkup we’d run in our bays:

  • Tires: Grab a quarter. If you can see the top of Washington’s head in the tread, you’re down to 4/32″ of rubber, which means it’s time for a new set. Check the pressure while they’re cold, and don’t forget the spare napping in your trunk.
  • Brakes: A high-pitched squeal is your pads waving a white flag. A shimmy in the pedal usually means warped rotors. Neither improves with time or school traffic.
  • Battery: Summer heat is the real battery killer, not winter. Most last 3 to 5 years; if yours is pushing that, get it load-tested before it strands you at pickup.
  • Fluids & Filters: Top off the coolant and oil, and swap that cabin air filter. Pollen season leaves it looking like a lint trap, and your A/C pays the price.
  • Wipers & Lights: Streaky blades and dark mornings don’t mix. Put on fresh blades and check every bulb.

Ten minutes now beats a tow later.

At SSA European Auto Repair in Kingston, European makes are all we do: BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW, Porsche, MINI, Volvo, and Land Rover. If that’s what’s in your driveway, roll in for a complimentary back-to-school safety check and start the year ahead of the bell.
