Easing into Fall

Fall is my favorite time of year, but I do grieve the final days of summer. It is difficult to make this shift back to school with shorter days, earlier alarms, and firmer routines. That being said, time seems to move at a slower pace during this transitional season. The bite to the air calms the nervous system and allows for quiet reflection.  It is so important to nourish your body as the life cycle of so many things comes to a close. There is a process of letting go as things truly fall away. It is a time for rest.
Tend to your body and spirit during these months leading up to winter with grounding practices like yin yoga, time in the sauna, massage, warming foods, and meditation. It is important to remember that the body does not like abrupt change, so be mindful of how your feet have to adjust to new footwear, your muscles have to be conditioned for different outdoor activities, and you will be thrown into a new circadian rhythm. Do your best to make gradual changes and ease your way into the demands of the season.
As dusk approaches on a fall day, turn off your electronic devices, sit by the fire, take long slow deep breaths, roll your feet on a cork ball, sip a warm cup of tea or broth, reflect on the beauty of the day, hug your loved ones longer than usual, settle into an Epsom salt bath, listen to classical music, rub lavender oil on your feet, and sleep. Try this routine and stay healthy as we move into the long winter ahead.
