Embracing the Rhythm of a New Season

As the days grow shorter and the colors around us begin to change, many families find themselves settling into a new rhythm. School schedules are in full swing, extracurricular activities fill calendars, work demands continue to compete for our attention, and routines become busier than ever. This is definitely happening at Freedom Farm and we are thankful!

Each season brings its own opportunities and challenges. Autumn often arrives with a sense of movement and transition as families adjust to packed schedules, changing priorities, and the steady pace of daily life. Amid these responsibilities, it can be easy to move from one activity to the next without taking time to truly connect with one another.

As Freedom Farm prepares to welcome Bishop W.C. Martin next month—the inspiring preacher from Sound of Hope who reminded the world of the power of opening our hearts and homes—we are invited to rethink what true togetherness looks like.

We believe this changing season offers a gentle reminder to slow down, be intentional in the moments we share and look for simple ways to strengthen relationships. Whether through a shared meal, a conversation in the car on the go, or a few quiet minutes at the end of a busy day, lasting connections are often built in the ordinary and simple moments of life.

Protect the Family Sanctuary

When the calendar starts filling up with fall festivities and holiday prep, we encourage our parents to act as the consistent keeper of the home’s peace. Children need a steady anchor to feel secure, and they cannot find that stability if the entire household is constantly running on empty.

We encourage everyone to take time this month to evaluate your family’s availability. Intentionally block out quiet evenings that are non-negotiable. Sitting down together over a simple meal—without the distraction of phones or upcoming event checklist signals to our children that they are the priority, not the logistics of the season.

Shift from Isolation to Contribution

It is easy for kids to retreat into their own worlds when the focus of the holidays becomes what they will receive next. To break this isolation, we work to point their inner compass toward contribution, teamwork, and shared purpose.

We try to include children in the holiday preparation rather than just preparing for them. We strive to make memories together. Let them help bake, set the table, or plan a family service project. When children are given a real role in serving others, whether it’s blessing a neighbor or supporting a local foster care initiative, their focus naturally shifts away from personal focus and toward meaningful connection.

Cultivate an Atmosphere of Grace

With all the extra activity that comes with the holidays, it’s easy for a little friction to creep in. We all want those perfect memories, but sometimes the pressure to make everything just right can leave us feeling stressed and short with one another. This is when we can lean into what matters most: unconditional love, patience, and making sure everyone feels welcome. These are the values we see at the heart of the cross.

Let’s all work to lower the bar of perfection and raise the bar of grace. When children know that home is a place where they are loved and accepted just as they are—not a place where they must perform or always “get it right”, we believe they are more likely to feel safe, connected and at home.

Room for Everyone

This October, before the full weight of the holiday rush arrives, let’s choose connection over busyness. When we anchor our homes in peace, point our children toward service, and lead with grace, we don’t just survive the season—we give our children a true sense of belonging and the freedom to thrive.

Connect with the Mission: Freedom Farm was built on the belief that every child deserves a loving, stable home where they can grow and soar.
