Believe it or not, it’s about time to start thinking about trick-or-treaters tromping up your driveway. But it’s also time to think about that driveway! Your pumpkin spice latte is fitting for the season, but is your driveway fit for what’s to come this winter?

Before cold weather, snow, and ice wreak havoc on your asphalt, fall is the right time to repair and seal it, an important step in the prevention of bigger, more expensive issues down the road.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Take a minute to go take a closer look at your driveway. Are you seeing cracks (even small ones), faded or worn-down surfaces, loose gravel or crumbling edges, water pooling in certain spots, or soft or uneven areas? If you’re seeing any of these signs, give us a call soon. Fall is your window to fix them before winter magnifies the damage.

And if you’ve been thinking about widening your driveway, adding an extension, or finally tackling that upgrade you’ve been putting off, fall is the ideal time to get it done. Our team handles full installations and expansions, not just repairs and sealcoating.

REASONS TO ACT NOW

Here are a few reasons why you should address your driveway issues now:

  1. Freeze–thaw cycles worsen every crack. Hudson Valley winters are tough on asphalt. Water slips into cracks, freezes, expands, and forces the pavement apart. A tiny line in October can become a pothole by spring.
  2. Sealcoating needs mild temperatures. Sealcoating doesn’t cure well in cold weather. Fall offers the last stretch of warm days and cool nights, which are ideal conditions for a strong, protective seal.
  3. Winter repairs are difficult. Once the ground freezes, patching becomes harder and materials don’t bond as effectively. Fall repairs last longer and look better because the asphalt can still settle and cure properly.
  4. Snow, ice, and salt are brutal on asphalt. A fresh sealcoat acts like armor, helping your driveway resist moisture, chemicals, and abrasion from plows and ice melt.

Your driveway is one of the most expensive surfaces on your property. A simple fall repair and sealcoat can extend its life, improve its appearance, and save you from costly winter-related damage. And if you’re planning a bigger upgrade—a full installation or an extension for extra parking—you should get it scheduled for completion before the ground freezes and winter shuts the door on the paving season.
