Give Experiences, Not Things: How to Plan Travel as a Gift

Every holiday season, we ask the same question: What do you buy for the person who already has everything? Sometimes the answer isn’t another thing at all.

Travel can be one of the most memorable gifts you give, whether it’s a weekend getaway for your spouse, a family vacation instead of a pile of presents, a graduation trip, or a bucket-list experience to celebrate a milestone.

And with Black Friday and holiday travel promotions beginning to appear, November can be a great time to start exploring what’s possible. But gifting travel takes a little more thought than finding a great deal and booking it.

Start with the person receiving the gift. Where have they always wanted to go? What kind of traveler are they? Someone who dreams about relaxing on a beach may not want a packed European itinerary, while an adventurous traveler might prefer exploring a new destination over spending a week at a resort.

Then consider how much of the trip should actually be a surprise.

A surprise getaway can be incredibly special, but airfare, passports, work schedules, school calendars, mobility needs, and personal preferences can make booking an entire trip without someone’s input tricky. Sometimes the better surprise is revealing the destination or the idea of the trip, then planning the details together.

This is especially important when you’re taking advantage of Black Friday travel offers. A great price can certainly create an opportunity, but it should still be the right trip. Look beyond the discount and understand what is included, travel dates, restrictions, cancellation policies, and whether the experience actually fits the people going.

You can also make the gift itself part of the fun. Wrap a passport holder, create a clue about the destination, tuck an itinerary into a suitcase, or simply put a note under the tree announcing that next year, you’re going somewhere together.

Because years from now, most of us won’t remember every gift we unwrapped.

We will remember the first time we saw a place we’d dreamed about, the meals we shared, the things that went hilariously wrong, and the stories we still tell afterward.

If travel is on your holiday gift list this year, Jade Rose Travel can help you turn the idea into an experience designed around the people receiving it. Visit www.jaderosetravel.com to start planning.
