Walk into a boutique, and you might assume it’s curated for one type of woman – young and trendy. But here’s what I’ve learned from eight years of dressing real women in this community: style has no expiration date. Style is about discovering what makes you feel good about you. The right piece, worn the right way, works at 25, 45, 65 and yes – even 80!
It’s About Fit & Personal Style, Not Age
The number one thing that makes an outfit feel “too young” or “too old” isn’t the trend – it’s the fit. A beautifully cut blazer flatters every decade. Wide-leg trousers are having a major moment right now, and they look stunning on a 30-year-old heading into the office and a 60-year-old heading to lunch with friends. On any given day we experience just that. Both of those women in the fitting room, at the same time, with very different plans of styling the same pant. When clothes fit your body, age becomes irrelevant.
Recently we had a customer come to us for a new work wardrobe. She was starting her first professional job, and she needed versatile styles that would be functional for her day. She pulled several dresses that she could easily style for work. She also wanted some pant and top combo options, so we pulled those for her as well. At that same time, there was a customer shopping for a general wardrobe update. This customer was in her 60s, and the crossover between these customers and their selections was incredible. The dresses the customer needed for work are the same dresses the other customer needed for an upcoming vacation. This just goes to show you that great style works for every season of life.
Trends Are Meant to Be Interpreted, Not Copied
You don’t have to wear a trend head-to-toe to be current. A crop top might not be for everyone – and that’s okay. But the color, the fabric, the silhouette? Those can show up in a longer blouse, a flowy cardigan, or a statement skirt. Boutiques are great at this: we bring in the trend in a classic way, and we help you find your version of it. For some, it is neutral and minimal. For others it is bold and colorful. Here is the great news: both are correct as long as you love it!
Accessories Are the Great Equalizer
A bold earring. A great bag. The right boot. Accessories let you dip into any trend without committing fully, and they work at every age. Some of my most style-forward customers are women in their 50s and 60s who’ve figured out exactly what they love and wear it with total confidence. That’s the goal at any age.
Dressing for the Life You’re Living
The best boutique shopping isn’t about what’s on the mannequin; it’s about your life. Are you running between school pickup and a work meeting? Going from the office to a dinner out? Are you a new mom that just wants to feel good in your new body? Whatever your season in life may be, there are always styles to meet you where you are. Boutique pieces are designed to be versatile, and a good stylist (that’s us!) will help you build looks that actually work for your day, not just for the rack.
