Is Change the Only Constant? No! The Power of a Solid Foundation

Do you like change? The question is kind of a joke. I mean, some of us enjoy change, I suppose. But, most of us don’t! We human beings are creatures of habit. Some good, some bad. But, we just really enjoy the familiar. We like being comfortable. So, generally speaking, we’re people who don’t love change. And yet, if we’re being honest, change seems to be the one and only constant in this world. So, that’s frustrating!

Did you know that every single day of your life, your body is changing? Those of us over 40 are like, “Uh, yeah! I did know that, and I don’t love it!” Some of the changes to our bodies such as aching joints and slowed metabolism are not very welcomed, while other changes like wisdom and maturity are. Fact of the matter is that we’re not even always aware of all that changes. Did you know that your body replaces over 300 billion cells every single day?

Our moods, our news feeds, the weather, our bank accounts, our social media feeds, our opinions – all of creation is in a constant state of flux. Like a river that is constantly flowing and subsequently changing, such is life! And, sometimes the river of change overwhelms us. At times, it feels as if we’re drowning.

Understandably so! Many of the changes we experience in this world are not great. For those of us who have spent any length of time as a human being on planet Earth, you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to determine that the world sure seems to be changing for the worse in many ways.

As the pastor and principal (or “PrinciPastor”) of Peace Lutheran School & Early Childhood Center, knowing the world is changing for the worse isn’t surprising and isn’t even scary or depressing. In fact, it’s an opportunity to share love and grace and forgiveness with people who are being beat up in a world filled with difficult changes.

At Peace here in the heart of Saginaw Township, we don’t focus so much on the constant changes in this world as much as we focus on the unchanging love of God in Jesus that we just celebrated at Christmas! While the world sees change as the only constant, we believe, teach and confess a God who doesn’t change. A God who is the same yesterday, today and forever. And, since we believe He is a God of power and love and grace and forgiveness, we think Him not changing is a pretty cool thing!

If you’re interested in a change in your child’s education, we’d love to show you how we do things a little differently at Peace. On Sunday, Feb. 1, from 1-3 p.m., we’re opening our school to our community and would love for you to come and check us out! In a world of change, come see the difference it can make in your child’s life to be surrounded by God’s unchanging love!
