Happy May! School is almost out, and it’s time to decide what to do with your kids this summer. You have options!
We are blessed throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region with many organizations offering programs to keep children engaged, active and learning throughout the summer.
Right here in Saginaw Township, Peace Lutheran School & Early Childhood Center offers Community Summer Camps, a free weeklong Vacation Bible School, and even a basketball camp for young athletes – all open to children throughout our community.
Community Summer Camps
Community summer camps provide a fun atmosphere, often based on a central theme. At Peace, our Christ-centered camps are based on an overall theme that is broken up into weekly learning themes. Weekly field trips enhance the learning experience with information about that week’s theme while helping children learn with hands-on activities.
Peace still has limited openings remaining for children ages 2 ½ to 4. Our goal is to introduce children to new information or teach it in a different format than what they might be learning at school. We also throw in a heaping helping of fun to ensure kids remain enthusiastic and engaged.
Summer camps throughout our community have different offerings based on the days, hours and weeks you need. Peace offers both part-time and full-time camp activities, and families may choose the activities and days their children attend. We are open 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays.
Community Summer Camps at Peace run May 26 through Aug. 14. Registration is open. Contact Early Childhood Program Director Kathi Pearson at kpearson@peacesaginaw.org or visit www.PeaceSaginaw.org/summer-childcare.
Vacation Bible School
All community children age 4 (fully potty-trained) through entering fifth grade (for the 2026-27 school year) are invited for five days of fun in the summer sun at the free “WILD!” Vacation Bible School at Peace. Join us in our weeklong VBS adventure as our school transforms into Camp Whatchamacallit, a Christian nature ranger summer camp deep in the great, green Thingamajiggy Forest, where boys and girls are running wild in the beauty of nature and the glory of God’s love.
Peace VBS is offered 8:30-11:45 a.m. June 15-19. Every day will be packed with craft, science and recreation stations, fun music, snacks, engaging Bible lessons and more! The registration deadline is June 1. Save your spot today at www.PeaceSaginaw.org/VBS.
Basketball Camp
Peace Lutheran will again serve as a location offering S.K.I.L.L.S. Basketball Camp for boys and girls ages 7-15. S.K.I.L.L.S. Basketball Camps serve more than 400 children throughout the summer at various locations statewide. The camps emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship, Christian ethics and values, and proper attitudes toward teammates, opponents, coaches, winning, losing and hard work.
The camp at Peace runs 10 a.m.-3 p.m. July 13-16. Learn more and register at https://www.skillsbasketball.org/.
