For Those With Dental Anxiety, See Dr. Funk

When I saw Dr. Funk, I had not been to a dentist for years. It was difficult to admit, but at some point, the tooth pain was greater than the anxiety. Many people avoid going to the dentist, and the consequences can be expensive. Dr. Funk and his team are equipped to support you if you have anxiety about going to the dentist.

People can have anxiety for various reasons, including trauma, difficult experiences, and pain. We may not know why we have anxiety or avoid something important, and that is okay. For me, it was a combination of things, including some difficult past dental experiences. I still needed to take care of my teeth.

From the beginning of calling the office, I started to feel better. It was a judgment-free experience, and they got me in quickly for a new patient appointment. Once I was there and in the chair, everyone encouraged me to stay calm and let them check my teeth to see what the situation was. Dr. Funk confirmed he could help me, and we made a treatment plan. Ask for help if going to the dentist is stressful for you.

  • You can ask about the possibility of medication.
  • Dr. Funk loves playing music in the office, so get ready. You can even make requests.
  • My favorite room there has some plants, but shaded safety glasses will make any room look cooler, while protecting your eyes.
  • Heat and pressure can help ease tension and stress. If you want a blanket or neck warmer, you might forget you are at the dentist.
  • Another nice touch is the stuffed animal you may be offered for a little extra support.

Getting your teeth checked can really improve your life and protect your health. Let the team know if you have anxiety. Some communication goes a long way, so ask questions, and as they explain everything, that can also help.

Finally, get your teeth checked if you haven’t for a while. I still have some anxiety, but I also had a great time at the dentist…getting a root canal.
