Advancing Care: The Role of PRP Therapy

Back to Articles

Joint pain can be frustrating and limiting, often interfering with everyday life—from staying active to simply getting through the workday comfortably. At Bone and Joint Institute, we offer a full spectrum of treatment options, from conservative care to advanced surgical solutions.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is one of the non-surgical options available to help manage joint pain and injury. PRP therapy plays a role in our broader approach to musculoskeletal care, focusing on supporting the body’s natural healing process.

PRP therapy works by concentrating the platelets and growth factors from a small sample of your own blood and injecting them directly into the injured area. These growth factors play a key role in healing by reducing inflammation and stimulating tissue repair. In chronic conditions like tendinitis or plantar fasciitis, the body’s natural healing response can slow down or stall; PRP delivers a high dose of healing signals to “restart” the repair process and support more effective recovery. This treatment is commonly used to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal problems, including knee arthritis, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, various forms of tendinitis, ligament injuries, bursitis, and partial tendon tears.

As part of a comprehensive treatment plan, PRP serves as an additional option that can be integrated with physical therapy, medications, other injections, or, when appropriate, surgery—helping to optimize outcomes and support recovery. Our providers take a thoughtful, individualized approach to care, considering your condition, your goals, and your lifestyle when developing a treatment strategy. PRP therapy is one of several advanced, non-surgical options we offer to broaden your treatment choices. If joint pain is limiting your daily activities, this therapy may be an effective option to help you return to the activities you enjoy most.

PRP therapy is offered by several of our providers, including Dr. Richard Gibson, a board-certified family medicine and sports medicine physician specializing in the evaluation and non-operative treatment of orthopaedic injuries.
