After 10 years of owning a dance studio, I’ve seen firsthand how summer dance classes and camps give children so much more than just something to do indoors. While our town offers beautiful weather and endless outdoor opportunities, summer dance programs provide a unique balance of physical activity, creativity, structure, and social connection that helps children thrive.

Summer often brings a much-needed break from school routines, but children still benefit from staying active and engaged. Dance classes keep kids moving in a positive and healthy way. Whether they are taking ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap,  dancers are building strength, coordination, flexibility, and endurance while having fun. In an age where screen time can easily take over summer days, dance gives kids an exciting reason to get up, move, and interact face-to-face with others.

Dance camps also offer something many summer activities cannot: a combination of exercise and creativity. Children are not only learning steps, but also storytelling, musicality, teamwork, and self-expression. Summer camps often allow dancers to explore styles they may not try during the regular season, helping them gain confidence and discover new passions in a low-pressure environment.

For younger children especially, summer programs help maintain routine and social interaction. Camps create friendships, encourage cooperation, and teach valuable life skills such as responsibility, perseverance, and respect for others. Many students walk into camp shy or unsure and leave with stronger confidence and a sense of belonging.

For experienced dancers, continuing classes over the summer helps maintain technique and prevents the “starting over” feeling in the fall. Just like athletes attend summer training camps, dancers benefit from staying conditioned and connected to their craft. Even one or two classes a week can make a tremendous difference in confidence and progress when the new season begins.

After a decade in business, I truly believe dance classes and camps provide children with lessons that extend far beyond the studio walls. Summer dance is not just about training dancers — it is about building confident, creative, active, and resilient kids.  Check out our summer dance camps and enroll in one today!
