When life has taken Ryan and Dana Hargraves from Chicago to Europe, through multiple career pivots and back again to the southwest suburbs, one constant has been their ability to build something meaningful wherever they land. Today, that same thread of adaptability and purpose shows up in the heart of their work as owners of Tinley Park Kitchen and Bath Shoppe.

When Ryan first met Dana while living in Chicago in the early 2000s, the spark between the two was undeniable.

“By the end of dinner on our first date, l asked Dana to come meet my friends who were at a nearby restaurant,” Ryan recalled.

Ryan was born in San Antonio, Texas, in a military family that moved often. After stops in Germany, Texas, and Indiana, his parents settled down in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After graduating with an accounting degree from the University of Iowa, Ryan continued his nomadic ways during his professional career with stops in Milwaukee, Chicago, Germany, the Netherlands, and Peoria.

Born in Oak Lawn, Dana spent her younger years on the south side of Chicago, graduating from Evergreen Park High School and later from Robert Morris University.

Shortly after the couple’s meeting, Ryan got an opportunity in Frankfurt, Germany. After about a year apart, Ryan proposed, and the newly engaged couple moved to Arnhem in the Netherlands.

“Our time in Holland was very memorable,” says Dana. ‘We were young, both working, experiencing new cultures, seeing the world, and making friendships that would last a lifetime.” The European tour ended after a few years when the newlyweds found out they were going to become a family of three. The Hargraves moved back to Palos Heights in the summer of 2009 and welcomed Vivienne, now 16, shortly thereafter. The young family began making memories in the southwest suburbs, but, true to form, this lasted three years as another job opportunity led them to Peoria and Caterpillar. While in Peoria, the Hargraves also welcomed Adeline, 13, and Mia, 9.

In 2022, Ryan changed careers again to join Dana’s family business, Tinley Park Kitchen and Bath, then owned by her father, John Cancialosi. After 20 years in large corporations, Ryan felt ready for a more community involved, customer-focused, entrepreneurial role.

“While the learning curve was steep, my father-in-law established an excellent reputation and a world-class team,” said Ryan, who now owns Tinley Park Kitchen and Bath. “I could not be happier with this change. I help enable customers in turning their remodeling dreams into reality, participate in the Tinley Park Chamber of Commerce, and attend all of my kids’ activities.”

Around the same time that Ryan’s career changed, Dana began a lifelong dream to pursue an advanced degree in counseling and is now a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Alcohol and Drug counselor at Life Solutions Counseling, PLLC in Palos Heights.

In their free time, the Hargraves follow their daughters’ volleyball and soccer teams, spend time outdoors with their beloved dog Hamilton, and enjoy live music.

Finally, after years of moving and career changes, the Hargraves are in the community and the roles where they were meant to be.

Tinley Park Kitchen & Bath Shoppe is located at the north end of historic downtown Tinley Park at 17050 Oak Park Avenue.

TPKBS has a diverse team with 75-plus years of experience in the remodeling industry. The team has experience in large remodeling businesses, big box home improvement stores, large manufacturers, and smaller family-run lumber stores.

“My favorite part of running the business is helping customers achieve their dreams in their home remodeling projects. I love seeing the final bathroom or kitchen and hearing about the customer’s experience from the beginning of the job through the final steps of the process,” said Ryan. “Our brand and our reputation are a direct result of the hard work of the entire team at TPKBS, the designers, the installers, and the office team who enable the project behind the scenes. We keep all of the letters from customers and display them on the wall to remind the entire team how the work we do affects our customers.”
