August is National Wellness Month, which makes it the perfect time for a little midyear refresh.
Not a total life overhaul. Not a strict new routine. Just a chance to pause, check in with yourself, and make a few simple changes that help you feel better.
For women over 40, wellness can sometimes feel like a full-time job. Drink more water. Eat more protein. Lift weights. Sleep eight hours. Manage stress. Balance your hormones. And somehow do it all while keeping up with work, family, and everything else on your plate.
The good news? You do not have to do everything at once.
Here are five easy ways to give yourself an August wellness reset.
1. Water first, coffee second.
Before reaching for your morning coffee, start with a glass of water. Then add a protein-rich breakfast to help support energy, muscle, and fewer midmorning cravings.
2. Add a little strength.
Walking is wonderful, but strength training is especially important after 40. It supports your bones, metabolism, balance, and confidence. You do not need a complicated workout. A few squats, light weights, or resistance bands can go a long way.
3. Give your bedtime a glow-up.
Create a simple nighttime routine that helps your brain and body wind down. Dim the lights, put the phone away, keep the room cool, and give yourself permission to rest.
4. Take five.
Five minutes of deep breathing, stretching, journaling, prayer, or simply sitting quietly can help reset your nervous system. Small pauses matter, especially on busy days.
5. Pay attention to what your body is telling you.
If you are dealing with fatigue, brain fog, poor sleep, weight gain, anxiety, or low libido, do not automatically assume it is “just aging.” These changes may be connected to hormones, thyroid health, nutrition, stress, or other concerns worth exploring.
This August, pick one habit that feels doable and start there.
Wellness is not about being perfect. It is about creating routines that help you feel stronger, brighter, and more like yourself.
And remember, your health deserves a spot on your calendar too.
