Imagine the woman you’ll be at 80.
Can you picture her?
Is she carrying her own groceries in from Dierbergs, no problem? Getting down on the floor with a grandkid and back up again without a whole production? Out at the Vine Farmers Market on a Saturday because she is looking for the local good stuff?
For me, I think about her a lot. And I’m sure of one thing. She doesn’t show up by accident. We are building her right now, might as well be on purpose.
We’re all living longer now. The real question is healthspan, how well we live those extra years. Are we strong enough to do our own thing? Steady enough to stay on our feet? Moving freely enough that we don’t have to think twice about it? That’s the goal. Strength, yes, but mobility and balance right alongside it. The full package.
The foundation under all of it is muscle. We start losing it after 40, a little every year, and menopause hits the gas pedal. Though, we won’t feel it go. The scale may not tattle either, because fat moves in as muscle moves out and the number can sit there or even go up, innocent enough.
It doesn’t have to be that way, though.
I’m 50. My last DexaFit scan put my fitness age at 39. That’s not genetics, friends. That’s lifting and eating, on purpose. The woman at 80 isn’t a done deal. She’s a work in progress, and we’re the one holding the tools.
But you can’t fix what you can’t see. So we measure. For the deep, gold-standard picture, we have DexaFit. And another method we have right here in the studio is the upgraded Styku HealthPass, a 3D scan that takes about 60 seconds. No X-ray, no needles. It reads your muscle and fat and flags anything worth mentioning. Best part? You scan again in a few months and actually watch yourself change. The mirror can’t do that.
This goes double if you’re on a medical weight loss program. Drop weight fast and muscle walks out with it, and that’s the exact muscle the woman at 80 is counting on.
So my challenge this month is a simple one. Quit guessing. Come find your real numbers. Then let’s go build the woman you actually want to be.
She’s moving forward either way. Might as well be on purpose.
