Have you noticed that game nights are making a comeback? Everywhere I look, people are gathering around Mahjong tables, hosting Bunco nights, dealing a deck of cards, or dusting off their favorite board games. I love seeing it because it reminds us that sometimes the best reason to get together is simply to have fun.

While the games may bring everyone to the table, it’s the conversations, laughter, and friendships that keep people coming back. In a world where life feels busier than ever, carving out a few hours to unplug and spend time together has become more valuable than ever.

As an event planner, I’ve learned that people rarely remember every decoration or every detail. What they do remember is how they felt. They remember being welcomed, meeting someone new, sharing great food, laughing until their cheeks hurt, and leaving already talking about the next get-together.

That’s why I encourage people to think beyond the traditional party. You don’t have to wait for a birthday, graduation, or holiday to invite people over. Host a Mahjong night with neighbors. Gather friends for Bunco. Plan a family game tournament or a couples’ game night. Whether you’re celebrating at home, in your neighborhood clubhouse, or at a local venue, games have a wonderful way of breaking the ice and bringing people together.

If you’d like to make your gathering feel a little more festive, it doesn’t have to be over the top. A welcoming balloon display, a custom sign, a themed dessert table, or a fun photo backdrop can add personality to your event and create a space where guests naturally want to mingle and make memories. Often, it’s those thoughtful touches that make a gathering feel extra special.

I’m especially excited to invite you to our Afternoon Soiree Fashion Show & Mahjong on September 27, hosted in partnership with Mercer Street Chic Boutique’s Annual Fashion Show at The Villa at the Vineyard. It will be a wonderful afternoon celebrating fashion, friendship, community, and one of the fastest-growing social activities in our area. Along with enjoying free-play Mahjong, hosted by Mahj by Marci, guests will get a first look at some of the season’s newest fashion trends and outfit inspiration from Mercer Street Chic Boutique. Whether you’ve been playing Mahjong for years or you’re simply curious to learn what all the excitement is about, we’d love for you to join us for this fun and stylish community event.

As we head into the fall season, I hope you’ll find your own reason to gather. Because no matter where you meet—in your home, at a neighborhood clubhouse, or at a beautiful venue—the best memories are made when people come together.
